When the floodgates open

The level of water in Tungabhadra dam at Hospet has been gradually increasing, thanks to good spells of rain in the catchment area in the recent past.

Hampi 210Hampi 212Hampi 211Hampi 209Hampi 130The water level in the reservoir should touch at least 1,600 ft when the floodgates open to release water into canals, which would irrigate about 1.5 lakh hectares of land in the Tungabhadra command area that spreads across Koppal and Raichur districts served by the left bank canals, and Bellary, Siruguppa and Hospet taluks in Bellary district served by the high-level and low-level canals on the right bank of the reservoir.
