Holidays in NYC

There is something magical and even dreamlike about New York City at this time of the year. The crowds are large and jovial. Christmas spirit is everywhere. There is so much to see and do that is unique to this delightful holiday season when NYC becomes a winter wonderland.

A-ha, the window displays!! Boutiques and department stores across the city dress up for the season with their annual holiday displays.

Each store puts together beautifully designed windows to celebrate the season (as well as entice you into their store). They also turn the average walker on the street into a theater audience 🙂

The holiday shops at Bryant Park and in Union Square are great places to pick up handmade stuff. And the Grand Central Holiday fair held inside the Grand Central Terminal transforms a simple train ride into a unique Christmas experience.

75 Rockefellar Plaza

Rockefeller Center Plaza is of course the Capital of NYC Christmas with the big tree now boasting more than 30,000 lights. It’s worth fighting the crowds, particularly after dark when the lights bounce off the bare shoulders of the golden Prometheus statue.

Did  you notice that all these pictures also have a few circles in them.. I guess that qualifies for Ailsa’s Travel Theme: Circles this week 🙂

See more changing season here.

  1. You reminded me how fabulous the store windows are in the city… Up and down 5th Avenue, all the fancy stores compete for the best dressed holiday window… 🙂
