Moving to the folksy beat

Bhangra, the folk music of Punjab in North India, celebrates the harvest season. The music centers on heavy beats of a double-barreled drum called dhol. The lilting and fast-tempo beats of dhol, entwined with the singing of traditional folk songs, transcends musical and language barriers. The result is the captivating potent beat driven rhythmic dance movements that make you want to get up and join the fun !!

I took these pictures in Boston where university students from across the US dance in a Bhangra competition every year. They do take their dance very seriously. I loved the movements of the dancers captured here; fits the theme of this week’s photo challenge.
